Lymphedema
Lymphedema is a chronic condition characterised by swelling in the arms, legs or
other parts of the body due to a build-up of lymph fluid. This occurs when the
lymphatic system is damaged or blocked, often caused by surgery, radiation therapy,
infections or congenital abnormalities. Symptoms include:
Persistent swelling in the arms, legs, or other areas
A feeling of heaviness or tightness in the affected limb
Reduced flexibility or mobility
Recurring skin infections or hardening of the skin
Pain or discomfort in the affected area
